As the name suggests, these unique and exquisite Johanna Red Pike or Red Fin Johanna Pike Cichlid are known for their strikingly beautiful red-coloured fin. They dwell in areas of South America such as the Amazon river basin, Brazil, Bolivia, Essequibo drainage in Guyana, Orinoco basin in Colombia and Venezuela, Oyapock and Approuague drainages in French Guiana, and Amapa.
Johanna Red Pikes generally grow up to the size of 12 inches, but they are known to reach a length of a maximum of 14 inches. They require around a 100 gallon tank or more when fully grown. Johanna Red Pikes are predatory towards smaller fish and can sometimes be territorial and aggressive for fish of comparable size. Also, they prefer soft and somewhat acidic waters. A pH range of 6.5-7 is a good choice for them.
Johanna Red Pikes are carnivore fish. You can feed them high-quality protein-rich frozen or live foods, including fish, feeder shrimp, various worms, and similar meaty items, as well as high protein pellets.
