The Pineapple Pleco (L152 or Pseudorinelepis genibarbis) is a rare pleco and reaches a good size for medium to large aquariums (around 14").
A short-headed, stout-looking pleco with strong side plates, featuring bony ridges in the middle. These plates have the presence of odontophores, which can help differentiate sex in adult animals. The species presents a great variety of colors concerning the place of capture. Its color also varies according to the substrate you use. Its body usually displays brownish-brown spots or stripes over a black base. Pinneaple Pleco has black dots near the extremities and on the fins, a feature that brings an even more prehistoric look to the animal. Males may have a more orange coloration on the cheeks and also on the spines of the fins. The orange color is strongest when Pineapples Plecos are close to the breeding season.
The Pineapple Pleco is a not-too-shy species, which can be seen swimming around the aquarium, especially during meals. A rare fish for plecos lovers and aquarists in general.
Of omnivorous habits, it is a fish that is always hungry, it lives very well based on commercial foods of vegetable origin. You can supplement your diet with fresh vegetables. It is essential to keep logs in the aquarium, as these plecos also feed on pieces of wood. It also exhibits the strange behavior of feeding on the surface, usually upside down.
It does very well in neutral pH, which helps to keep it in a community aquarium with different species. Because they are a very peaceful and non-territorial pleco, they can be kept without problems with other plecos and bottom fish in general.
This pleco likes to be hidden between fallen logs at the bottom, you can use this feature to create a naturalistic setup. What makes these fish super comfortable, displaying their natural behavior, in addition, it's very cool to see how well they camouflage among the driftwood.
Make sure your tank has good filtration, as these animals are known to produce an alarming amount of waste.
It is a great species of pleco to be kept by those who like to observe their animals, they already spend most of their time visible, both hovering over the substrate and feeding on the surface of the water.
A pleco with a prehistoric aspect, which captivates many aquarists looking for rustic and resistant animals to compose the fauna of their tanks.
